Summary: It's the one sound that Owen dreads more than anything. A double drabble.
‘What’s her name?’ Ianto’s mum asked, breaking him from his concentration on the screen in front of him. Embarrassingly he hadn’t realised he'd been so distracted.
‘Sorry?’
‘You’ve not had that phone out of your hand all night.’
‘It's just work,’ he lied.
‘Rubbish. I know you, my boy, and no one loves their job that much. So come on, who’s the lucky girl? I say it’s nice to see you with that happy look on your face again. I was starting to worry that after Lisa you were going to swear off dating.’
Ianto blushed at how ridiculously transparent he was. ‘Actually, um…’
‘I'm getting old here, Ianto. Spit it out.’
‘Well, I mean… um… I know we haven’t spoken about it before, but…’ God, this was so hard. ‘What if…’
‘Yes?’
‘What if it wasn't a girl,’ he said, the words all rushing together in an indecipherable blur. He paused and took a breath. ‘I mean, I'm not gay if that’s what you're worried about. Well, not gay but… It's just, well, things change and…’
His mum rested a hand on his leg. ‘Ianto, I don't care who you fall in love with, only that you are loved.’
