torchwood100Summary: Of all the times for the lifts to be out of order. A double drabble.
Gwen paused on the landing, gripping the railing hard as she tried to regain her breath. They’d already done fourteen flights of stairs and there were still another ten to go. She wasn’t sure she was going to make it. ‘Are you sure he’s up there?’ She forced the words out in between puffs.
‘Yep,’ Ianto replied, still mounting the next flight, though sounding less breathless than she was. ‘Still not answering his phone, though.’
Gwen growled and forced her legs to take on yet more stairs. ‘Who the hell comes up all this way and then makes it so that you can’t get in touch with him in an emergency?’
‘Jack, that’s who. And it’s just our luck that the lifts were out of order. No other option but to go all the way up there and get him.’
‘Great.’
‘Well, look on the bright side.’
‘There is one?’
He turned back and grinned at her. ‘At least the world potentially ending will drag him out of whatever funk drove him up here to brood in the first place.’
‘Oh, yes,’ Gwen puffed. ‘The world ending is so much better than Jack just being in one of his moods.’
