Notes: Andy remembers what it's like being the newbie in town. A double drabble.

Andy sighed and crossed his arms over as the drizzle began to fall. Great. He wasn't even meant to be on street shift tonight. Wasn't that what promotion was for? Desk sergeant? Solving crimes from forensic evidence and eyewitness reports? Instead here he was at the scene.

'Real detectives don't wait for it to be committed to paper,' the gruff DI muttered at him. 'If you want an indoor job, go apply for a transfer to Records.'

Things had gotten off to a rocky start between Andy and his new mentor, transferred from London seemingly against his will.

Andy saw the blue lights of the SUV before it had even rounded the corner, screeching to a halt right next to the police tape. They quickly alighted and headed in.

'Who the bloody hell are they?' DI Cutler complained.

Andy grinned. 'Special ops,' he replied. 'Guaranteed to turn any crime scene into a three ring circus. That'll be us done for the night, sir.'

'Like hell it will,' he said, thrusting the tape out of the way and marching towards Jack.

Gwen walked over to Andy. 'Who's he, then?'

'New DI.'

'Did you not want to warn him about Jack?'

'Nah.'
